Summer Camp 2010

The following post has a slideshow of pics from our annual trip to the Summer Camp Ranch (family owned land) in Colorado. The Boy was a little hesitant about the 4-wheelers at first, but he finally requested Grandma to take him for a ride. After that, those 4-wheelers occupied his mind, day and night. Luckily he was content just t sit on them most of the time. He also loved throwing rocks into the reservoir and going for rides in the canoe and kayak with daddy.

Lions and tigers and bears, Oh my!

Ok, more like elephants and giraffes and merry- go-rounds. There were no lions or bears. I think there was some kind of tiger though.
Grandma and Grandpa A took us all to the zoo a few weeks ago!

Baby Suri

Oh! Here was the lion!

Note the green wagon. I think The Boy loved this more than seeing the animals. We had to "rent" the wagon because mommy forgot the stroller!

The merry-go-round was the highlight of the trip. Along with the green wagon.

And of course the thrilling train ride to end our super fun and educational day at the zoo!

Fire Trucks and Marching Bands

So, this guy I know works for the County Fire Department and we asked him if he could bring a fire truck out to my parent's house and give The Boy a ride.

He did.

The Boy was just in awe the whole time. It was a pretty sweet truck. It has a remote controlled nozzle on the front. We saw the exact truck in the 4th of July parade too!

This is Springville's Art City Days Parade.

The Boy's (and his mama's) favorite part of a parade. Marching Bands!

And fire trucks of course!

Bed?

Who needs a bed?

These last few weeks have been a sleeping nightmare. The Boy absolutely refuses to go to sleep. Even with a routine and shameless bribing, the kid will not fall asleep without mommy or daddy. He won't stay in his bed/room. He has a big boy bed in a new room, but he would rather sneak out and lay on the floor by mommy's bed. The other night he came in our room in the middle of the night and I, my resolution to be "strict" forgotten at 2:00am, just plopped him in our bed. He immediately slid off and went and laid on the floor by my side, sans pillow or blanket. Weird. So the next night, I was ready to be strict, mostly because I am selfish and don't like to spend hours holding my toddler's hand while he thinks about going to sleep. There are books to read, trashy T.V. to watch and quilting to get done, let alone the pure joy of sleep. So, we put jammies on, brushed teeth (with three different toothbrushes, I know, weird right?), read stories, said prayers, and sang songs. Then I told him to stay in his room and go to bed. If he came out I would shut the door. He hates having the door shut. And I left. He came out two times and I just took him back and repeated the deal. Then it was quiet. No pit-pattering of little feet, no reciting of the alphabet, no little voice saying "Mommy, where are you?", just quiet. So, I tip-toed down the hall, he was still in his room and almost asleep on the floor, so I bribed him with an ice cream cone (please don't judge, I am desperate) if he would stay in his room and go to sleep. 20 minutes later this is what I found.

Maybe he is trying out how it feels to be homeless,

or maybe he just really hates his bed.

And maybe a ripped apart diaper box really is the way to go.

Sunday Afternoon Nap

This was how we found The Boy after putting him down for a nap. In his bed.

Apparently, lying face down in the chair and balancing your toes on the ottoman is more comfy.

I did move him to his bed, but he woke up and refused to go back to sleep.
No Sunday nap for mommy.

First and Last

The Boy ran his first race on Memorial Day weekend.
50 meters against a tough field of 2, 3, and 4 yr. olds.
At the start with the other competitors.

It was a really cold morning!

The Boy really can run pretty fast, but this day was not his day.
He came in last, well, 2nd to last we think. But at least he got a new shirt!

At the finish with his Otter Pop.

Practicing with daddy.

The day went a little better for daddy. He told me he would be under 18 min for sure. So, when the clock said 16 min I hurried to go get The Boy off the playground and get ready to see daddy come in. Meanwhile, Brett came in.....first! I missed him coming across the finish line, but here is an awesome shot of him walking through the shoot! I think his time was 16:25. He beat the high school boys and won a free pair of shoes!

Maybe there is some hope for The Boy!
Here is some video of The Boy's race. There is a lot of time at the "start", because we weren't sure when they were going to go. Sorry.

*I started this post 3 weeks ago and am just finally getting it up!
